Types of topics a factory service manual cover for car repairs and maintenance

Car factory service manuals are the new thing gaining popularity amongst millennials and Generation Z. People are now learning more and more benefits of repairing cars themselves rather than going to the mechanics for every minor inconvenience. All of this has only become possible with the help of factory service manuals, these have been a game-changer for car owners and is proven to help save 50% costs altogether on car repairs and maintenance.

A factory service manual is a complete guide for car owners to understand how their works, what techniques and parts are best for it, and what they can do to ensure it is retained for a long time. These manuals are books that are usually published by the original car manufacturers. This source of information makes the manual all the more reliable and authentic and makes it easier for customers to trust it and use it in their real lives.

These books, or as we call them, manuals, contain detailed and thorough information on all that a car owner needs to be about his/her car. It has informative descriptions for the maintenance of cars of every model. Not only this, but the manual also contains step-by-step tutorials of what needs to be done to repair a certain thing or service your car. So, even if someone knows absolutely nothing about cars or repairing, they can learn a whole lot of things just by thoroughly going through this manual and understanding each technique.

Along with these guides, tutorials, and detailed information on your car’s spare parts and specifications also include wiring diagrams and troubleshooting guides. Wiring diagrams are used to further describe how the circuit and engine of your car functions – what’s right and what’s wrong for it. These diagrams include different components of your car’s engine drawn in the form of simpler shapes and helps in understanding how you can make a connection between these components.

There are many different factory service manuals available in the market, which all cover more or less the same topics with a few changes. Chilton Total Car Care (DIY) is the newest manual published by Chilton, these manuals include all contents ranging from wiring diagrams to thorough information on DIY repairs and technical parts, etc. Another manual very similar to Chilton is Haynes Repair Manual (DIY), the manual has almost everything the same as Chilton’s manual, however, it does not include the engine torque specifications. These two manuals are the best in the market right now and are used by the majority of the population especially in the US. Other manuals include Bentley, Bishko, and Detroit, however, these are not very recommended in the market.

All in all – a factory service manual has it all. You name it and it is there. Even if you’re someone with absolutely zero knowledge of vehicles and all the technical terms, you would be good to go with one of these manuals because really, they are that detailed and thorough. Happy repairing!

Crucial Things to Know When You Need to Get a Tow Truck

Crucial Things to Know When You Need to Get a Tow Truck

If you’re getting your car towed, it’s likely that there’s been an emergency and you weren’t really expecting to get stuck where you did. Even though your car didn’t give you a warning before landing you into unexpected trouble, there are things you need to keep in mind while you’re getting your car towed to get out of the trouble. In this post, we’re going to be going over the top 3 of these things!

#1: Try to get to a safe spot

When cars break down, they don’t really give you a warning, meaning that it’s likely that your car has stopped, out of nowhere, in the middle of the road. Now, whether you’ve found yourself right in the middle of a busy highway, or are stuck in a secluded area, you shouldn’t just leave the car where it’s stopped. It’s better to move your car to the side of the road where it’s going to be safe. You can easily do this by putting the gear in neutral, and pushing the car to the side, slowly. Once you’ve reached the side, put the car back in park or pull the emergency brake if the car is a manual.

If your car isn’t movable, you’ll have to make the space you’re stuck in, safe instead. This can be done by placing cones, flares or any type of reflective sign around your car that alerts other drivers on the road that something is wrong. On the off chance you have nothing like that in your car, the least you need to do is turn your hazards on, it should be enough to alert the other people on the road.

#2: Figure out who you’re going to call

When it comes to towing your car, there are a few options that you can go for. The first one is usually to call a service like AAA, but that can only be done if you’re already part of a roadside-services program.

The next is to call your call insurance and see if they have towing services available at that time. A lot of insurance companies offer this service, but others don’t, so it will depend on your specific insurance plan.

If you don’t have either of these options, you need to look into hiring a towing company instead. Call any recommended towing company in Brooklyn that you know of, or can find with enough reviews online, and have them come over and tow the car for you!

#3: Pay attention

Once the towing company arrives, they’re going to be asking you a set of questions about your vehicle, and the way it got stuck/broke down. Make sure you’ve been paying attention to everything that happened and can properly describe everything to them. They’ll also need documents proving that the vehicle actually belongs to you. This will be ownership records, the car’s papers, insurance papers, your driver’s license and so on. After they’ve been through everything and made sure that you’re the real owner, the towing process will begin. Good towing services will just do this bit for you, so usually, there’s nothing you need to do, but on the off chance they need you to do something to aid the process, listen to them carefully and do as they say. This will ensure that your vehicle has safely made it onto the truck. Then, you need to let them know where you want the car towed to. If you end up not having that option, pay attention to their instructions about where the car is going, and how you’re going to get it back. Each company will have their own set of rules, business hours and so on. All that’s left to do, is to pick up your car at the drop off point later on!

How to Jump Start a Car

Jump Start a Car

Whether you’re a first-time car owner or a seasoned driver, you’ll have to jumpstart a vehicle at least once in your lifetime. Successfully bringing a drained battery back to life depends on following the proper steps. This quick write-up reviews jump starting basics and offers other useful battery tips.

You can jump a vehicle two ways: with jumper cables and another car or by using a portable jump starter. If you’re buying new jumper cables, look for models with 4 to 6 gauge wiring and measuring at least 20 feet long – long enough to reach the other vehicle. When shopping for a portable starter, look at its amp rating. Also, check manufacturer recommendations for each model to confirm that it can power up your vehicle.

When Jump Starting A Car Which Cable Goes on First?

So, you now have your jumper cables or a portable charger. You’re ready to jump, right? Not quite. You should visually inspect your battery for corrosion, cracks, leaks or other physical damage in its terminals or casing. You should also make sure that your battery isn’t frozen. Finally, don’t touch your jumper cables’ or chargers’ clips together. You’ll avoid a dangerous electrical shock while they’re in use.

Before you begin a jump using a donor vehicle, make sure that the two vehicles are as close to each other as possible. Try to park them side by side or with their front ends facing each other. After your vehicles are ready, follow these quick steps:

Remove the plastic hoods covering the battery terminals.

Identify the battery posts. The positive terminal should have a plus sign (+) and may have a red cover.

Attach one of your cables’ red clamps to the positive terminal of the dead battery.

Connect the other red clamp to the positive terminal of the functional battery.

Connect one of your cables’ black clamps to the negative terminal on the functional battery.

Attach the remaining black clamp to an unpainted metal surface.

After all the clamps are attached, start the donor vehicle and let it run for a couple of minutes. Then start your own vehicle. If you’re using a portable jumper, you only need to hook up its red clamp to the positive terminal on your battery. The black clamp should be attached to a clean unpainted metal surface.

If your automobile starts with little to no trouble, disconnect the cables and allow it to run for about 15 minutes. As a precaution, take your vehicle to an auto parts store and take advantage of its free battery testing services.

Can You Jump Start A Car By Yourself?

Jumping a vehicle is pretty easy, but it’s not a good idea to do it by yourself. Damaged batteries can ignite or release harmful vapors. Jumper cables can also emit sparks, causing fires or explosions. If you’re ever in doubt, ask a professional to jump your vehicle. Roadside assistance services usually include jump starts for no additional charge.

Anyone can end up with a dead battery, but proper auto care typically sidesteps this problem. A Duralast battery may be a useful investment, with regular and advanced models to provide the best power in your typical driving conditions.

How To Keep an eBike Battery Warm In Winter

eBike Battery Warm In Winter

Most electric bikes run on lithium ion batteries. These batteries are sensitive to cold and heat. In the short term, a battery may provide reduced range at freezing temperatures. Over time, extreme temperatures or wide fluctuations shorten the lifespan of ebike batteries. Keeping batteries for electric bikes and electric tricycles for sale warm whenever possible in cold weather will prolong the next ride you take and the operational lifespan of an ebike battery.

Store eBike Batteries Indoors

Any type of battery will experience diminished performance in cold weather. During operation, a cold ebike battery may only be able to reach about 80% of the normal range. Battery life may be rapidly reduced by storage at extremely cold or hot temperatures or if batteries undergo large temperature swings. Once a battery has become cold, it should slowly be brought back up to room temperature over at least two hours prior to taking a charge.

The best way to prolong the life of a mens or ladies electric bike and batteries is to store all ebike components indoors. Keeping a bike and batteries in a climate-controlled area enables a bike to dry out completely after a ride in winter weather and reduces temperature strain that can shorten range in the short term and operational life over time.

Wrap a Battery In Insulation

It may be possible to keep a battery warm in storage or transport when not in use by wrapping the unit in insulation. Foam and other materials may be helpful for protecting sensitive components from exposure to freezing temperatures or moisture. Batteries should also be protected from moisture, exposure to which can result in a short or the formation of corrosion.

Always charge and store batteries in a dry, room-temperature environment. Batteries should never be charged cold or stored at a very high or low temperature, as this can take a toll on battery life. Depending on the duration of storage, keeping batteries in specially designed fire-proof bags can also be a helpful safety measure given the remote risk of combustion that accompanies all Li-ion batteries.

Avoid Exposure To Direct Heat

Direct heat poses one of the greatest threats to batteries. In addition to reducing the operational life, very high heat can cause a battery to explode. While this is less of a danger with external temperatures during the winter, it is important to bring cold batteries back to room temperature slowly over time. Attempting to warm a battery near a direct heat source can damage the unit and raise the risk of fire or explosion. In particular, prolonged exposure to temperatures over 90 degrees Fahrenheit can diminish the functionality of an ebike battery.

Whenever you take a ride during the winter, bring your bike inside to dry off afterwards. Always allow the battery to sit at room temperature for at least two hours prior to charging. When storing rechargeable batteries, maintain a 60% power level for optimal battery life. Taking the right approach to charging and storing ebike batteries can help you get the most out of each component.
