5 Major Concerns Of Healthcare Industry In 2020

Published

Healthcare Industry

What more can tell you about the healthcare industry’s importance than being in the middle of a pandemic? As we try to find a way around the COVID-19 virus, these healthcare workers always manage to give us a glimmer of hope with their valiance and determination. Without extensive effort they make to save lives, we could have been facing a much bigger disaster. However, as a society, we should give these warriors something back apart from the performative rituals of salutations that are common these days. The best way to start is to hear their concerns and alleviate their problems. We have already listened to the issues about the lack of personal protective equipment, which should be the government’s priority to save these assets.

We must realize that becoming a healthcare worker is not easy, and everyone who is a part of it struggled to get here. Maybe that be doctors or the nurses, they burned the midnight oil, spent days to gain the relevant experience before they were able to start practicing medicine. We have seen a profusion of new medical colleges appearing on the horizon, but they are still quite tough to get into due to the massive demand. Many medical workers acquire higher degrees during their jobs, such as masters in nursing online, to brush up and enhance their knowledge. It only makes sense that we listen to these people’s problems, and in this article, we will discuss some of the significant issues in the healthcare sector.

Cybersecurity

You would be surprised to see this, but online information security is among the biggest challenges for the medical industry. The cyber ransomware attack on the National Health Service (NHS) of the UK was an alarming indication for the need to improve their security. This attack virtually paralyzed the country’s health system and put millions of lives at risk of not receiving the necessary care. Patient data is usually sensitive and is a private contract between the doctor John Doe and the patient, so its security affects everyone. Unfortunately, cybercriminals still make breaches into such data, and the information remains mostly available due to a lack of security infrastructure. Medical providers must realize that without providing security to this data, they will be fined heavily for violation of medical regulations that govern patient confidentiality.

Invoicing and payments

We are in a digital world with increasing invoicing requirements as not only the technology advances, but our needs also expand. The patients now face hefty bills, and they usually require payment to be a straightforward process to worry about to have one less thing. Gone are the days when people carried stashes of cash to hand out at the counters where they would waste several minutes just counting it.

The world is now moving to a cashless currency with credit cards and other digital solutions now replacing them. However, the healthcare industry has been slow in adapting to the changes, which is one of the patients’ significant concerns. The medical sector finds it difficult to do as they will have to maintain partnerships with multiple credit companies and banks. On the other hand, they also shy away from the running cost of maintaining such technologies. On top of everything, healthcare organizations have the additional responsibility of patient data confidentiality, which trumps it all.

Price transparency

Patients are usually confused about the factors that contributed to the bill. That results in a lack of trust between the patient and the healthcare provider. The lack of confidence stems from the feeling that someone is ripping them off when this feeling could quickly subside if someone can inform them what each procedure cost. Healthcare systems now make their services price accessible, and patients should have all the necessary information. Patients are now wary of this, and before going through medical procedures, they ensure that they know all the pricing details. Any hospital that does not provide elaborate information gets dropped, so it is in favor of hospitals too to provide the billing information beforehand.

Patient experience

The medical insurance business is flourishing, but now patients are more aware of the services they demand from these companies. Patients now expect services they want from any other consumer companies, which makes the competition very fierce among healthcare providers. A patient experience involving easy access to information, flexible appointments, post-procedure care, and comfort and ease of paying bills is something everyone demands. Healthcare networks must have centralized systems with information easily accessible to all their employees to ensure such an experience.

Effective payment model

Apart from access to billing information, patients now also demand better payment models with incentives. The Healthcare industry reduces the costs by basing the payment on the patient outcome instead of service quantity, and this increases the financial incentives, as a study suggests. Patients also prefer preventive care, so they can foresee future events and utilize their time more efficiently. Many care providers now collaborate to ensure that the patients get access to patient-oriented care, shared savings, and global payment models.

Key Takeaways

Although the healthcare industry is burgeoning at a meteoric pace, it faces the concerns that any modern service providers would face. Today, the world is all about data and information, and healthcare providers must be responsible for protecting patient data from cyber-attacks. Much like any other consumer service, the patients expect the provider to provide the details about the pricing to keep the system transparent. Another challenge that faces the industry owing to the higher competition is enhancing the patient experience. It is safe to assume that healthcare providers will focus more on these issues with time, which is beneficial for the patients.

Getting Back Into Peak Health After A Pause

Doctor Check In

There are many points during our lives when we tell ourselves that we want to get back into a healthy routine. Often, we end up thinking about getting healthy in terms of exercising more or losing some weight. While these are good goals, many of us find we need advice, if it has been a while since we have had an exercise or eating plan. We can be tempted to jump right in and imagine we will only eat healthy food and we will exercise multiple times every week. The problem is if we jump in too fast, we are likely to struggle to maintain our healthy habits.

Step 1: Doctor Check In

At the start of almost any fitness class or program we attend the person leading the event will say “before starting this activity talk to your doctor.” They are right, we should all consider seeing our doctor before starting a new fitness or other health regiment, especially if we have not done so recently. Our doctor will often talk to us and might even run a series of tests to make sure we are healthy and are able to start the fitness program we have chosen.

Sometimes these tests will be obvious such as tests to make sure our hearts are healthy enough for physical activity. Sometimes these will look like other routine screening to make sure our bodies are functioning correctly. If it has been a while we should not be surprised if our doctor orders regular STI screenings, kidney screenings or thyroid functioning screenings. While we might wonder why we need these exams or tests before hitting the gym, in truth they simply help make sure our new health program is not harmful to our bodies.

If we are run down with a virus, we might not have the energy we need to start a fitness routine or we may push ourselves too hard and cause long lasting problems. These screenings can also provide a baseline so that we can see how our health is improving over time.

Step 2: Understand Health Goals

Saying we want to be healthy is a general goal that can be very hard to make progress towards. It is important that we create SMART goals around our health. These are goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and anchored within a time frame. For example if we have a goal to lose weight a SMART goal might look like saying we will add one 30 min dance fitness class each week for the next 3 months. This type of health goal is much more likely to bring us success. The better our goals the more likely we will be successful which will encourage us to take even more healthy steps. There is no reason not to set ourselves up for success by creating good SMART goals.

Step 3: Getting Healthy In Community

When trying to reach health goals it is important that we surround ourselves with others on a similar journey. This could look like using a health app that lets us stay on top of our goals. This could look like joining a Facebook group where we can talk about our successes and challenges. This might look like creating our own communities so we can connect with neighbors or friends who also want to go on a weekly jog or visit a different healthy restaurant each month.

Being connected to others makes it much more likely that we will be successful in the long term. It has been shown that we often pick up the habits of those who are in our social circles so we might as well work to surround ourselves with people who will help us develop healthy habits. Also, often when we feel connected, we feel better able to handle the normal challenges and setbacks that we face in our health journeys.

If we are planning to start getting healthy it is important that we check in with our doctors, that we have SMART goals, and that we find others to connect with. We all want to be healthy but all too often there are things getting in our way. We deserve to make sure that we are setting ourselves up for success. What is the first step you are going to take on our journey to a healthy life?

5 Tips to Lose Weight Without Dieting

Lose Weight Without Dieting

There are diet plans that will make you lose weight fast, but leave you hungry and feeling deprived. If you’re looking for a way to drop those pounds without depriving yourself, here are five tips that will help:

Avoid Processed Foods

Processed foods are high in fat and calories, which is why they’re often the target of weight-loss diets. They also offer little nutritional value so you’ll still feel hungry even after eating them. Processed foods are loaded with sugar, unhealthy fats, and sodium. Not only do they contribute to weight gain, but they can also lead to health problems like heart disease and diabetes.

Eat Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables

Fresh produce is rich in nutrients, antioxidants, and fiber. All of these help to boost your metabolism and keep you feeling full. Avoid drinking sugary drinks like soda, sweet tea, and juice since they have high calories and can quickly sabotage your weight loss goals. Stick to water or unsweetened tea instead.

Work Out Everyday

If you want to lose weight without dieting, you need to exercise. Not only is it great for cardiovascular health and strengthening bones, but studies show that people who work out regularly are more likely to lose weight in the long run.

Aerobic exercises like running or biking not only help tone your body, but also help with weight loss. If you don’t have time to hit the gym, try exercising at home. You can even download fitness apps on your phone that are specifically designed to get you moving.

You also need pre and post-workout supplements to keep your energy levels high and give you a boost for those tough workouts. You can also use supplements used by professionals such as Jason Huh to help you on your bodybuilding journey. Some of these supplements will help you lose fat and maintain your muscle mass.

Drink Plenty of Water

Staying hydrated is essential for weight loss. Water helps rid the body of excess sodium and toxins, which will make you feel healthier and more energized. It also keeps your metabolism going strong so you burn calories faster.

Drink at least eight glasses a day to keep yourself feeling full and satisfied until it’s time for your next meal. If you find water boring, add a slice of lemon or cucumber for some flavor. You can also drink herbal tea, which is low in calories and has detoxifying properties. Water is essential to losing weight without dieting, so make sure you’re drinking enough every day.

Time Your Meals

Make sure you eat your meals at the right time. Eating small, frequent snacks will help boost your metabolism and keep you feeling satisfied between bigger meals where possible. It’s also important not to go more than four hours without eating something so that your body doesn’t start breaking down muscle tissue instead of fat cells for energy.

Eat three big, healthy meals daily to keep your metabolism up and maintain an even energy level throughout the day. Four hours before working out, eat a snack containing both protein and carbs so you have enough fuel for your workout without feeling weighed down or bloated.

Many people try to lose weight by going on a restrictive diet, but this is not the only way. Therefore, if you are looking to drop a few pounds without starving yourself, try implementing some or all of the tips listed above. You will not only lose weight, but you’ll also be doing your body a world of good.
