Google releases a new update for search this week related to domain diversity

Google new update

It is sometimes felt by the community that Google is responsible for most of the things that happen in Search Results. However, that is not the case every time and Google is also not aware of results showing up in search. But as soon as the company realises something abnormal, it quickly tries to correct it with an update.

Same has happened this time around as Google has announced the rollout of new search update this week. This update is related to domain diversity as Google calls it.

Basically, you might have seen that there are lots of search results inside Google where you will see most of the spots taken by the same website. The best example of these type of results are ones where travel websites are involved such as Yelp etc.

With this update, Google has informed that there will now be just one results shown in Google search from a single website. However, Google does say that some of the results will show multiple results from the same website in search if it finds them relevant to the search query.

Therefore, you might still find that Yelp manages to have more than one result in the search query but that is because Google finds it relevant. This will reduce all the links that you see inside Search because of Black Hat SEO as well as other means with which you can bring your website ahead of others.

Also, Google’s Danny Sullivan has clarified that this will only affect the organic search results and it will have no effect on featured snippets, map listings etc. Another important clarification is that this is not related to Google’s June 2019 Core Update which was already introduced before this update. You will still find URLs that you were previously seeing in search results but some may now be gone due to this update.
